Superman

The other night I caught Jewish Americans on PBS, a six-hour long series, of which I only caught three hours worth.

One of the fascinating tidbits that David Grubin includes in this series is the authorship of Superman.

It made me smile to think that Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, two Jewish boys from Cleveland, created Superman as an alter ego.

Although a generation older they could have been any one of dozens of boys I went to elementary or high school with in New York.

And now it seems one of the comics sold for $317,000 at auction--wouldn't they be pleased.
