Authors: James Purdy died

It appears another iconoclast has passed away, James Purdy.

Strangely, I seem to have read quite a bit of his words over the years, and it is only in this blog report that those words come back and remind of an article I read just the other day in the New York Review of Books.

Finally, I am getting paper editions of NYRB, and the article on Wendy & Lucy and by extension Jon Raymond's stories are reminiscent of Purdy's dark portraits of America.

I basked in the joy of reading the reviews, holding the sheaves in my own hands and having a bus ride fly by.
